The 2005 Ford Focus is a 2- or 4-door, 5-passenger family coupe, family sedan, sports sedan, or wagon, available in 12 trims, ranging from the ZX3 S to the ZXW SES. The 2005 Ford Focus's competitors include the Pontiac Vibe, the Scion tC, and the Toyota Matrix. Upon introduction, both trims are equipped with a standard 2.0-liter, I4, 136-horsepower engine that achieves 26-mpg in the city and 35-mpg on the highway. A 5-speed manual transmission with overdrive is standard, and a 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive is optional. The 2005 Ford Focus is freshened for 2005.

The Focus returns for 2005 refreshed from the previous model year. It is again available in several different bodystyles: a ZX3 three-door hatchback , a ZX4 four-door sedan , a ZX5 five-door hatchback , and a ZXW wagon . The new ZX4 ST sedan features a 151-hp 2.3L Duratec engine, which produces cleaner emissions. The interior receives a face-lift, as well as additional convenience features and storage. The exterior front-end also has been re-styled for this year. Optional equipment on the Focus includes traction control, side airbags, a power moonroof, and a premium sound system. Also available is the optional Sport Package, which features a tachometer, front fog lights, and a leather-wrapped sport steering wheel.
